The Australian brand ZEROTECH, a recent arrival on the international market, arrives in Spain courtesy of BORCHERS, its exclusive importer. Although it was introduced in 2020, behind it is TSA Outdoors (Tasco Sales Australia), a company with more than 50 years of experience in the optics industry. This importer and distributor partnered with several manufacturers to give birth to Zero Tech, a company that uses its own engineers and researchers to develop Australian riflescopes tailored to Australian shooters.

This last detail is of special importance, as it means that this is a product capable of operating in a country characterized by climatic extremes. A valuable aspect for marketing, because Australia is, after all, one of the harshest and most arid countries in the world. If a riflescope can cope with these environmental conditions, it can cope with almost anything. The ZEROTECH TRACE ADV 4.5-27x50 RMG model is a reference point primarily intended for sport shooting, but it performs well for those hunters who are fans of the most extreme spot-and-stalk hunts.

It is therefore not surprising that it is a robust scope; structurally, it is a one-piece 30mm tube made of aeronautical aluminum. The finish is the popular matte black typical of these types of scopes. The use of O-rings and nitrogen purging makes it completely waterproof and fogproof. In the hand, the TRACE conveys solidity, something confirmed by its weight of 824 g, which is in line with other scopes in this segment and tactical-sport orientation. Regarding its length, it is 362 mm, so it is not a compact scope. It should be noted that it complements this rock-solid structure with alloy flip-up covers that come as standard.

As for the optics, it uses high-quality glass, with the lenses featuring full coatings that guarantee 92% light transmission. The images obtained are bright, sharp, and clear, with good performance in low-light conditions. To preserve the lenses, those in contact with the exterior have a proprietary coating to protect against scratches and abrasions. This makes sense for a scope designed to operate in a country as sandy and dusty as Australia.

The magnification is 4.5-27x50, which adapts perfectly to the Precision Rifle Series (PRS) sport discipline and is in line with other competing scopes intended for the sport and tactical realm. The magnification dial has appropriate knurling that allows for easy and fast manipulation. The scope has a rapid diopter adjustment system. The eye relief, depending on the magnification, moves between 91-100 mm, which guarantees safe use with any caliber; furthermore, the range is wide enough to acquire the target quickly. As for the field of view at 100 m, it is 7.4 m at 4.5x and 1.3 m at 27x, values suitable for sport activity.

The turrets use the so-called Precision Turret System (PTS), proprietary to ZeroTech. These are exposed and oversized, as befits a sport-oriented scope. They feature a locking system that means they can only be adjusted by first pulling them out; pushing them toward the body of the scope locks them. The elevation turret features a simple Zero Stop system, using a small 1.5 mm Allen key.

Regarding its operation, they have a crisp and audible click, with the right balance between stiffness and sensitivity so that they are quick and easy to handle. Calibrated in MILs, each click is 0.1 MILs, which represents a variation of one centimeter at 100 m. The maximum adjustment range for elevation is 17.5 MILs and for windage it is 16 MILs. On the side opposite the latter turret is the parallax adjustment control, which surprises with its starting point in its configuration, which is just 25 m to infinity. A feature that those who use the scope with rimfire rifles will appreciate.

A scope with the tactical-sport orientation that this one has possesses a First Focal Plane (FFP) reticle to match. In addition, the ZEROTECH brand points to the design of new reticles adapted to the needs of today's shooters as one of its strong points. This model uses a reticle called RMG, a proprietary design that combines a Christmas tree-style model with the posts typical of a German #4 hunting reticle. It lacks illumination, given that the manufacturer promotes it for sport use.

The RMG allows shooters to apply elevation and windage variations without having to use the turrets. Subtensions are in 0.5 MIL increments with integrated 0.1 MIL measurement bars. A floating center dot ensures a refined aiming point for zeroing and for achieving good shot groupings, while the thicker bars with "chevron" ends at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock help draw the shooter's attention to the center of the reticle at lower magnifications.

It should also be said that the scope is very well presented for what is expected in the price segment where it is positioned. In addition to the high-strength metal alloy caps, it comes as standard with the disassembly tool for them, an Allen key for zeroing the turrets, three spare screws for them, a high-quality microfiber cloth, an instruction manual, and a reticle explanation chart.

In summary, despite its youth, the ZEROTECH TRACE ADV 4.5-27x50 RMG is a scope that breaks into the Spanish sport optics market with force. In a market as competitive as sport optics, its strengths are an exceptional price-quality ratio, accompanied by bombproof robustness and several interesting technological innovations. A scope that positions itself as a good entry-level and quality alternative for those fans of sport shooting and the most extreme spot-and-stalk hunts.
